William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, served from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. Born in 1843 in Ohio, he began as a schoolteacher and later fought in the Civil War. McKinley entered politics, championing protective tariffs and eventually becoming a Congressman.

In 1896, McKinley won the Republican nomination for president, focusing on economic growth, the gold standard, and tariffs. As President, he oversaw economic expansion and played a role in acquiring Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines after the Spanish-American War.

Tragically, McKinley was assassinated in 1901. His legacy includes shaping late 19th-century economic policies and contributing to the lead-up to the Progressive Era. His untimely death further cemented his place in American history.
