Prevost joined the Order of St. Augustine and pursued his religious studies at Villanova University, earning a degree in mathematics and philosophy. His missionary work led him to Peru, where he served for many years and became a Peruvian citizen, eventually rising to the position of Archbishop of Chiclayo. In 2023, Pope Francis appointed him as the head of the Dicastery for Bishops, recognizing his leadership and dedication.
